Sad but True

AIG Retirement, Charleston, SC

Yep. This is my mail. You can discuss amongst yourselves as to who is going to adopt me when I retire.

The gentleman who manages retirement accounts has the office next to mine. He assures me that our money is held in a separate holding and not actually controlled by AIG. Hmmmm.

I'd like to still be able to go to the movies on Friday afternoons when I retire. but it's looking like I won't be able to buy popcorn.

Movie theater popcorn is overrated anyway : )

Just skip the popcorn and smuggle in Cadbury eggs.

And if it gets really bad, just visit blogger friends for a week at a time. Having so many fans, you wouldn't have to worry about room and board for years! I know I'd put you up for a week. :-)

Oh no! It's a small world...who would've thought AIG is in your own back yard?!

Yup, popcorn is ridiculously high priced....$4.95 at my theater. Won't buy anymore, that's for sure. But will continue going *out* to the movies!

Joan - I just file mine without opening them. I've downsized my retirement plans to: work until I die. I'll get a Hover-round, put a tow line off the back and I can tow bassinettes up and down the halls.

Just because your broker is AIG doesn't necessarly mean you've lost anything. I doubt you have any equity shares in AIG, which is the part that has been descimated.
Still, if you're worried about retirement, I'd recommend a self directed account at TD Ameritrade. I actually switched over from AIG to TD Ameritrade last summer. Best decision I ever made.

bfarr - You are right about that.

Judy: AIG is everywhere.

Pixel Peeper: Maybe I should start traveling now!

JanetLee: Heheh. I'll be right there with you.

Eric: You are correct. My account is just low because everything is right now. They plan to sell off our part to another company.
