Hmmmmph......

White Point Gardens, Charleston, S.C.

It's a bright and sunny lowcountry day and I woke to learn I'd been vandalized. Grrrr. Someone smashed through the wooden fence at the back of my property and completely trashed my backyard. Truth is I heard noise in the night and assumed it was the usual tipsy college students in the yard next to mine.

I've had things stolen from my yard through the years but having someone destroy my property for the pleasure of it is new and unpleasant.

Happy pictures unrelated to entry as usual.

Oh, Joan, How awful. Now you will always be on edge. I wish I knew what kind of pleasure people get from doing things like that. Maybe then it would make some kind of sense. Pam D.

Perhaps a motion-activatedd spotlight will deter them in future.

Why oh why do some people find a thing like that fun? Waldo's light sounds like a great idea.

Don't you just wonder what goes through people's minds sometimes? Grrrr

Pam - Yes, it changes the way you feel about your property for a while. I'll be wary.

Waldo - Not a bad idea. I had one years ago.

Jarart, Linda - it is hard to understand, isn't it?

Meanwhile, I have an ancient pool in the back yard and all the chairs and potted plants were dumped in it. I went for my walk to warm up and then went in after them. Brrrrr! Just had a nice hot shower and called to see if someone can fix my fence this evening.

I am so sorry. Some people have no respect for the property of others. I am sure it was young kids. I think the light is a good idea and might give you some peace of mind.

Joan - Come by my blog today, if you get the chance. I need some advice, and I value yours more than most.

Cheers,

Oh, Joan - so sorry about your yard! I left my first message in a blind rush, then I read your post afterwards... that is such a feeling of invasion. ROTTERS!!!

Well, I'll give you credit for posting "happy" pictures after what you've been through. I think the worst thing about that is the feeling of being violated and the randomness of the invasion!

Have you ever thought of an electric fence? ;-)

With my luck, an electric fence would just mean a little extra excitement when I bent over to pull weeds...

Oh, that's rotten. Stay safe.

Well, that is a bummer. It's the kind of event that changes you for a bit, which perhaps is the worse part of it all. My neighborhood out in Lower Awendaw just started a crime watch - I had been oblivious to random break-ins (cars, yard stuff, etc) over the year. I was bummed to hear of it. Be careful.
